Wife of businessman accuses Police, construction firm of kidnapping, wrongful arrest

Nkoli Nzekwe, the wife of businessman Tochukwu Nzekwe, has alleged that her husband was kidnapped and wrongfully arraigned in court through the collaboration of another businessman and police officers in Enugu State.

The incident allegedly stemmed from a case involving a truck driver employed by Mr. Nzekwe’s company, who was accused of damaging an asphalt road under construction.

According to Nzekwe, three police officers, who were working with a construction firm handling road rehabilitation in Enugu, brutally assaulted the truck driver, Okechukwu Ofor, leaving him unconscious.

The attack reportedly occurred after the driver was accused of damaging part of the road. The officers allegedly dumped the unconscious driver at Independence Layout Police Station, Enugu, before disappearing.

Eyewitnesses reported that concerned officers at the station rushed Ofor to the police clinic at the State Police headquarters, where doctors worked tirelessly to save his life.

Ofor, currently recovering in the hospital, recounted the harrowing experience.

He alleged that the police officers, acting under the instructions of the construction firm’s managing director, beat him with the butts of their rifles and other equipment. Believing he would not survive, the officers left him at the station.

“It was only due to the kindness of another officer who brought me to the clinic that I am alive today,” Ofor stated.

The situation took a turn when Tochukwu Nzekwe, managing director of Toshel Nig. Ltd, the estate company where Ofor works, filed a formal complaint to the Commissioner of Police, seeking justice for his employee.

However, in a shocking twist, Nzekwe was reportedly kidnapped, detained, and later arraigned in court by individuals suspected to be police officers. The court ordered his remand in prison, despite him not being involved in the incident.

In a statement, Nkoli Nzekwe expressed disbelief over her husband’s treatment: “My husband was not the one driving the truck.

He only sought justice for our driver who was brutally attacked. Instead, he was kidnapped, detained, and charged through false pretenses by the Enugu Commissioner of Police.”

“My husband told me that he was called by CP, a day prior to the incident and was assured that the issues surrounding the damaged road and the brutal assault on the truck driver would be resolved. He was told by the owner of the construction firm, that no further action was needed. However, what happened next revealed a deeply troubling plot.

“As my husband was leaving the place, he was unaware that he was being tracked by a group of men led by an individual known as “Lion-King,” allegedly identified as an officer from the state police command, accompanied by three police officers.
