The Public Relations Officer of the Gombe State Police Command, Mahid Muazu Abubakar, on Tuesday disclosed that the police have the power to arrest with or without warrant.
He added that the arrest can be made when the officers have reasonable grounds that a person has committed an offence or is about to commit an offence.
There have been various reports on both the conventional and social media about policemen coming to buildings and effecting arrests of occupants, with many people saying such behaviours by the policemen are wrong.
Recently, there was a report of policemen who came to a building in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State around 2:00 a.m., broke the door of an apartment in order to effect the arrest of four occupants of the house who they accused of being involved in drug dealings.
However, Abubakar disclosed on his Twitter handle on Tuesday that if policemen are suspicious that some people have committed crime or are about to commit crime, the police can arrest such people with or without warrant.
