The Arewa Economic Forum and Arewa Youth Consultative Forum have charged President Bola Tinubu to suspend ineffective or non-performing service chiefs and other appointees in the security sector.
There has been a sharp increase in the activities of gunmen.
No fewer than 29,828 people were killed while 15,430 were kidnapped across the country between January 2021 and December 2023.
Reacting, the Chairman of AER, Ibrahim Dandakata noted that the suspension of ineffective service chiefs would enable the Federal Government to achieve the desired result in the security sector.
Dandakata who in an interview with our correspondent acknowledged that the security situation in the country improved in the past few months, lamented that there has been a spike in killings and kidnappings in recent times.
“President Tinubu needs to keep to his promise. He has said that whoever he gives a job, he has a Key Performance Indicator that he is expecting from them.
“I think the President needs to do the needful as he has done with the recent events that happen in Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Ministry,” he stated.
Chairman of AER continued, “Security issues have to do with apart from the personal, infrastructure that is needed to effectively do the job. So we may observe incapacity in the personnel, but at the same time that maybe he a hidden issue that we don’t know.
Also speaking, the President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Shettima Yerima charged President Tinubu with sacking ineffective service chiefs.
He said, “When he fires one of them, others will sit up and the security situation will improve. Like he did in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the President should extend this to other Ministries, Department and Agencies, especially the security sector.”
