Natacha Akide, widely known as Tacha and a former Big Brother Naija contestant, has moved to the United Kingdom, citing professional reasons for her decision.
Explaining her move, Tacha shared that her career had reached a peak in Nigeria, leading her to seek opportunities abroad.
While she remains open to working with Nigerian brands, she noted that the financial returns from local deals no longer align with her current goals.
Tacha revealed that the earning structure for influencers in Nigeria has not significantly improved since her rise to fame in 2019.
Payments that seemed sufficient at the time now struggle to meet international standards, making it harder to sustain a global lifestyle while working locally.
Despite her relocation, she emphasized that collaborations with Nigerian businesses are still on the table if the terms are favourable.
Tacha said: “I relocated to the UK because I have conquered the whole of the Nigerian market. Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean I’m not going to do Nigerian deals. If the offer is good, why not?
“The influencing scene in Nigeria looks so beautiful, but behind the scenes, it’s not as beautiful as it seems because the money is poor. Someone would pay you N6 million, that’s around $3,000, for you to influence for six months and post two videos a month.
The fee was the same when I left the Big Brother Naija show in 2019, but it made sense then. At least, you could book a plane ticket with it. But right now, $3,000 is nothing. N6 million seems good, but when you have to convert it to dollars, travel abroad, and spend money to look good, there’s nothing left.”
