Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the APC. Igbokwe expressed this opinion in light of the disagreement between Adamu and the leadership of the National Assembly regarding the appointment of parliamentary principal officers.
During an interview with Daily Trust on Wednesday, Igbokwe emphasized that it is crucial for the national chairman to step down as he has lost the trust of the party. He criticized Adamu for publicly dismissing the list of principal officers, which should have been endorsed by the party’s leader, the president.
Igbokwe highlighted the national chairman’s lack of trustworthiness, referring to his previous attempt to select Ahmed Lawan, the former Senate President, as the party’s presidential candidate. According to Igbokwe, Adamu’s support for Lawan should have led to his removal, but the party managed to handle the situation at that time.
The former spokesperson of the APC in Lagos stressed that even if Adamu was dissatisfied with the released list of principal officers, he should not have made it public. Igbokwe concluded by stating that trust in the national chairman has been compromised, and now is the appropriate time to ease him out of his position, confident that the party’s leader, Asiwaju, knows what steps to take.
