Wale Odusola Shares His Ordeal with Police Amid Public Support for Lawyer

Wale Odusola has narrated his troubling experience at the hands of the Ondo State police, detailing the events surrounding his recent summons. In a heartfelt statement titled “My Ordeal, My Disappointment, and My Fear,” Odusola expressed his disillusionment with the police and the political environment in the state.

Odusola recounted, “Let me start by narrating my unpleasant experience at the Police Station. Considering your concern and solidarity for me from the beginning of my ordeal, I think I owe you all a duty to brief you about the events that happened at the police station/headquarters.”

He continued, “I got to the police station on 17/2/2025 as scheduled by the police. On my arrival, I was shown the video that I first made wherein I was advising the Governor to come home and develop Ilaje. I was asked if I made the video and I confirmed making it. I was then asked to write my statement and narrate what the video was all about.”

Odusola explained that while he expected the process to be straightforward, he found himself under pressure. “The IPO found nothing offensive in the video judging from my brief summary of the content of the video. But because he must satisfy his client… he decided that he will be asking me questions and I should be writing down my answers.” He raised concerns about the legality of this approach, stating, “By our law, I should be allowed to write freely without anybody prompting me to write down what I do not intend to write.”

He expressed his disbelief at the nature of the questioning: “The IPO asked, ‘You accused the Governor of having extramarital affairs with his Finance Commissioner.’ Very disgusting way of investigating a case. Honestly, I do not have hope in the police force of this country.”

Further pressing the officer on the matter, Odusola said, “I asked him if he understands Ilaje dialect because my video was made in Ilaje dialect and I can’t find where I said that the Governor was having extramarital affairs with anybody.” The officer admitted he did not understand the dialect, leading Odusola to question the validity of the accusations against him.

During an interview with the Commissioner of Police, Odusola noted that the SSA on Student Affairs claimed to be the petitioners behind the case. He remarked, “I directed the attention of the IPO to the fact that the petition was not signed by the SSA, but one Yomi who claimed to have his address in Isolo, Lagos State… the SSA cannot adopt a petition that he did not author.”

Odusola was ultimately asked to return with an interpreter, but he was taken to court without the promised interpretation of the video. “The implication of the above fact is that, that video was not interpreted into English so as to confirm whether I said what I was accused of,” he lamented.

He concluded with a grim outlook on the integrity of public officials, stating, “My fear now is, if an SSA, who should be seen as a public figure… could cook up a lie… then, I don’t have hope that my Ondo State will be a better place for us for now.”

In a show of solidarity with Omolegbon, residents have taken to social media, changing their profile pictures on Facebook to express their support for the embattled lawyer. Starnews NG can also report that Omolegbon’s followers on Facebook have surged from 6,000 to 7,100 within 24 hours, as many residents of Ondo State rally behind him, demanding justice against the petitioner who acted without the governor’s approval.

Odusola’s situation follows his recent court appearance for alleged cyberbullying after he criticised the governor on Facebook, a move that has sparked widespread condemnation.

Meanwhile, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, through his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, denied involvement in the case and directed the Attorney General to take over and withdraw the charges.

Despite this reassessment, the public outcry has continued, with many residents insisting that the governor’s aide who authored the letter in the governor’s name must be unmasked and dismissed for attempting to suppress free speech in Ondo State.
