UNIMED: Gov Aiyedatiwa Appoints New Vice Chancellor, Orders probe

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has appointed Prof. Ebuoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.

Her appointment follows the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council and comes as Prof. Adesegun Fatusi completes his tenure.

Prof. Adejuyigbe, a distinguished Professor of Paediatrics, is currently the Executive Director of the Central Office of Research at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and a Consultant Paediatrician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital.

She hails from Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State and has an impressive academic and professional background.

A Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine, she previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences at OAU. She also holds key leadership roles, including Vice-President of the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Co-Chair of the National Child Health Technical Working Committee.

Prof. Adejuyigbe is expected to assume office after the submission of the report from the newly constituted Visitation Panel. Until then, Prof. Adolphus Odogun Loto, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Clinical Services), will serve as Acting Vice Chancellor.

Government Sets Up Visitation Panel for UNIMED

In a move to enhance the university’s operations, Governor Aiyedatiwa has also set up a Visitation Panel to assess key aspects of the institution and recommend improvements. The panel will be chaired by Prof. Gbenga Olumekun, with Elder Idowu Benjamin, Mr. Olumide Ogidan, Mr. Anthony Akala, and Mr. Richard Adeyinka Arifalo (Secretary) as members.

The panel’s responsibilities include reviewing the university’s compliance with its statutes, financial management, staff development, industrial relations, asset management, and the implementation of previous visitation panel recommendations. The panel has been given six weeks to submit its report.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening UNIMED and ensuring its continued excellence in medical education and research.
