Unilag Celebrates Alumni Appointed as Ministers in Tinubu’s Cabinet

The University of Lagos, Unilag, proudly celebrates the appointments of two of its distinguished alumni, Dr. Tunji Alausa and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, to ministerial positions in Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council.

This was contained in a statement on the universities official website on Saturday, Nov 2ND, 2024.

“The University of Lagos (UNILAG) proudly celebrates the recent ministerial appointments of two distinguished alumni to the Federal Executive Council by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These appointments further cement our institution’s legacy of producing leaders who continue to shape Nigeria’s future across various sectors.” The post read in part.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, a Unilag College of Medicine graduate (Class of 1993), now serves as Nigeria’s Minister of Education. Dr. Alausa, previously the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, is internationally recognized for his contributions as a nephrologist and hypertension specialist. His academic career has included a professorship at Rush University Medical School in the United States, showcasing the global success of Unilag graduates.

Joining Dr. Alausa in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet is Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, appointed as the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment. Dr. Oduwole graduated from Unilag’s Faculty of Law in 1998 and later pursued advanced studies at Cambridge University and Stanford Law School. With her doctorate in International Trade and Development, she brings extensive expertise to her new role. Her work as a Special Adviser on Ease of Doing Business under former President Muhammadu Buhari and as a key figure in implementing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) underscores her dedication to Nigeria’s economic progress.

Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor of Unilag,, extended congratulations to both Dr. Alausa and Dr. Oduwole, stating that their appointments reflect Unilag’s enduring commitment to excellence and national service. She expressed confidence that they will bring positive change to Nigeria through their knowledge, experience, and dedication.
