The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the deaths of two men who tragically fell into a diesel reservoir in the Oregun area of Lagos on Saturday.
According to NAN, in a statement, LASEMA’s permanent secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the incident occurred on Ikosi-Oregun Road. LASEMA received distress calls via the emergency toll-free lines at 10:37 a.m. and quickly activated a response team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
Upon arriving at the scene at 10:47 a.m., emergency responders found that two adult men had fallen into the diesel reservoir. Preliminary investigations revealed that one man fell into the reservoir while working, and the second man, attempting to rescue him, also fell in.
Both men were in critical condition when rescued and immediately given first aid before being transported to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, both victims later succumbed to their injuries.
LASEMA has secured the incident site, and emergency responders are assessing the area to determine preventive measures for similar incidents in the future.
