According to the Daily Mail, President Donald Trump issued a fierce condemnation of the Episcopal Bishop of Washington, Mariann Budde, following her critical remarks during the National Prayer Service.
In a post on his Truth Social platform at 1 a.m., Trump dismissed her as “not compelling or smart” and demanded a public apology.
In his tirade, Trump characterized Budde as a “Radical Left hardliner” who inappropriately mixed religion and politics. “She brought her church into the world of politics in a very ungracious way,” he stated, describing her tone as “nasty” and lacking in substance.
Budde had used her sermon to implore Trump for “mercy” toward transgender children and undocumented immigrants, but Trump countered that her arguments ignored the reality of crime associated with illegal immigration.
“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our country and killed people,” he asserted, referring to what he termed a “giant crime wave” fueled by individuals released from jails and mental institutions.
“Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was very boring and uninspiring,” Trump added. “She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!”
Budde’s sermon ignited a backlash from conservatives, with Republican Congressman Mike Collins going so far as to suggest that the “radical bishop” should be added to the deportation list.
