On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced that he had authorized U.S. military airstrikes targeting a senior ISIS leader in Somalia. In a tweet, Trump confirmed that the strikes led to the deaths of several terrorists and the destruction of their hideouts.
“This morning, I ordered precision Military air strikes on the senior ISIS attack planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia,” Trump wrote. “These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they live in and killed many terrorists without harming civilians.”
According to Peoples Gazette, Trump described the operation as a stern warning to other terrorist groups, asserting that the U.S. would relentlessly pursue and eliminate threats to its safety. “The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that ’We will find you, and we will kill you!’” he said.
The U.S. air raid comes amidst ongoing terrorist activity in Somalia and less than two weeks after Trump began his second term in office on January 20.
