Donald Trump arrived in Washington on Saturday in preparation for his inauguration, marking the beginning of his return to the presidency.
According to PUNCH, accompanied by his wife, Melania, and other family members, Trump landed at Dulles International Airport before attending a private event at his golf club in Virginia, which featured a fireworks display.
In an earlier interview with NBC News, Trump disclosed plans to sign numerous executive orders immediately following his inaugural address on Monday.
Although the exact number of orders remains undecided, he described the planned actions as “record-setting” and hinted they could exceed 100.
The executive orders are expected to reverse several policies established during President Joe Biden’s administration.
Trump also reiterated his promise to launch a large-scale deportation program targeting undocumented immigrants, which he said would begin shortly after his swearing-in.
Speaking on the deportation plans, Trump said, “It will begin very, very quickly,” while avoiding specifics about the cities involved. “You’ll see it as it unfolds,” he added.
Tom Homan, Trump’s appointee as “border czar,” told The Washington Post that the administration is reconsidering its initial plans following leaks to the media.
Reports had suggested a major immigration enforcement operation was scheduled to take place in Chicago on Tuesday.
“We’re still deliberating,” Homan said, adding that the focus would remain on individuals identified as threats to public safety. “From day one, we’ll be making arrests nationwide without being constrained by prior administration policies,” he stated.
Due to an unusually cold weather forecast, the traditional outdoor inauguration ceremony at the Capitol has been relocated indoors.
“This decision was made with safety in mind,” Trump explained, describing the cold conditions as potentially hazardous for attendees.
On Sunday, Trump is expected to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery before addressing supporters at a rally in Washington. He is also set to speak at a formal dinner later in the evening.
Meanwhile, protests against Trump’s policies drew thousands of demonstrators to the streets of Washington on Saturday, highlighting the growing opposition to his agenda.
