The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has started the process of shipping petroleum products from the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), marking a major step in revitalizing the refinery.
This move follows the company’s successful re-streaming of the facility, which is now processing crude oil.
Trucks began transporting key products like Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Household Kerosene (HHK) from the refinery.
The commencement of this distribution signals the return of locally produced petroleum products to the market.
At a ceremony celebrating this achievement, Mele Kyari, Group CEO of NNPC, praised the efforts of all those involved in the project, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his backing, as well as the NNPC Board, staff, and contractors.
He acknowledged their collective role in overcoming challenges to restore the refinery to operational status.
Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), also commended the milestone and reiterated his agency’s support for ongoing refinery upgrades.
