Security forces from Operation Safe Haven have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of Sylvester Okechukwu, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan in Kaduna State.
Military spokesperson Samson Zhakom confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday in Jos. He revealed that Okechukwu was kidnapped from his residence in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area, at approximately 9:15 p.m. on March 4. His lifeless body was discovered the next day, March 5.
Following a raid on Tuesday at a Ruga settlement in the Warsa-Piti community of Lere LGA, a 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody. During questioning, he admitted to being hired by another individual who lived in the same house as the slain priest.
A subsequent operation led to the arrest of the second suspect in Agwan Sarki, Tachira, Kaura LGA.
Both individuals are currently being held as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other suspects connected to the crime.
