A 40-year-old woman, identified as Chioma Success, tragically lost her life after being struck by a truck that lost control on the Eleme Junction section of the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.

According to Afripost, eyewitnesses revealed that Chioma was traveling in a tricycle, also known as a Keke, when the accident occurred. The truck, reportedly unable to brake, collided with the tricycle. The Keke driver managed to escape just before the crash, but Chioma was fatally hit.

One eyewitness recounted, “The truck was coming from Oyigbo around 9 a.m. when it lost its brakes. It slammed into the side of the Keke where the woman was seated, and the impact was devastating.”

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, explaining that the truck driver had tried to avoid a stationary vehicle before losing control.

“On January 27, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., a truck with registration number XP 633 JJ, driven by a male, was traveling from Oyigbo towards Rumukrusi. Upon approaching Eleme Junction, the driver attempted to swerve around a stationary vehicle, lost control, and veered off the road. The truck mounted a pavement and struck Chioma Success, who was standing nearby, leading to her death on the spot,” the police statement read.

The police also confirmed that the truck driver has been arrested, and the vehicle has been impounded for inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO). The victim’s body has been transferred to the morgue, and the case has been referred to the state traffic department for further investigation.
