Tragedy struck in two communities in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Christmas as a fighter jet targeting the Lukarawa sect mistakenly bomb residents of the area.

According to reports, the jet was reportedly targeting Lakurawa terrorists, but mistakenly bomb Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa villages around 7 am on Wednesday.

Confirming the incident, chairman of Silame LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, described the incident as heartbreaking saying the number of casualties could not be entertained as present.

“The villagers were sitting peacefully when the bombs started dropping on the communities. They were innocent and peace-loving people who had no criminal record.

“It is too early for me to confirm the exact number of people killed or injured because we are still assessing the situation,” Daftarana said.
