One of the Media Assistants on new Media to Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, the Lawmaker representing Ondo South in the Senate, Mr. Nenuwa Olusola Rawlings, has joined the Irele Local Government Council chairmanship race under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State.
The 31-year-old politician declared his intention at Ward 5 of Irele Local Government during a gathering of all stakeholders including youths, women, elders, and party leaders on April 16, 2023.
Speaking with Starnews Nigeria on Wednesday, Nenuwa said his decision to contest for the council Chairmanship seat was informed by his desire to make a difference, adding that the last time Irele local government council had a robust administration was during the PDP era in Ondo State.
“A very active and robust local government administration ended with the PDP-led Government in Ondo state.
“Under the PDP administration, the local government council was known as the government of the people at the grassroots, where local people are the major stakeholders in decisions making.
“Under the PDP then, the People were empowered, roads were constructed, developmental projects and people-oriented programs took place. But today, under the retrogressive ruling APC administration, the reverse is the case.
“So, It is time to return the lost glory of the local government council in Ondo state and the only party that can do it is the PDP. This is why I throw my hat in the ring to make a difference,” he said.
When asked about how he intends to make a difference, Nenuwa said, it’s high time to get Irele Local Government working again. Although to achieve this, we all have a role to play.
“I am assuring my people that all the communities in Irele LG will have access to developmental programs and projects if I am elected as council Chairman under my great party, the PDP. I will run an inclusive government tagged ( IJOBA AWA’RAWA) and I will be a local government Chairman to the downtrodden.
“To serve people has always been my dream which gives me so much courage to throw my hat in the ring”, he added.
Starnews Nigeria reports that the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed December 16, 2023, for the conduct of the local government election in the state.
The ODIEC Chairman, Dr Joseph Aremo, disclosed that the commission had kick-started the process of the election by issuing 360 days’ notice for the conduct of the poll to political parties and other stakeholders.
The ODIEC boss also disclosed that the commission had rolled out guidelines to stakeholders on the conduct of the council election in order to ensure that democracy does not suffer at the grassroots.
