Nigerian nurses in England are now mandated to write nursing qualification examination over President Bola Tinubu’s alleged controversial academic records, a former Ogun State governorship aspirant and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has revealed.
While speaking as a guest on Channels TV’s programme, “Politics Today”, Sowunmi stated that Nigerians are now labelled as cheats overseas due to the controversy trailing the academic certificate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the Chicago State University (CSU).
According to him, “People in England are telling me now that nurses are going to have to do their nursing qualification examination because we have now become a nation of cheaters. Do you know why?
“We have now become a nation of duplicitous people. “Even in the backend of some countries, the governments are whispering behind our back”, he added.
Starnews Nigeria reports that the PDP chieftain also slammed the American institution for allowing itself to be used to heat up the polity and threw up more controversies by maintaining a definite culture of silence when people were making inquiries about Tinubu’s academic records.
He said: “Must we now get to a position in the world where we are sending thousands of emails to one institution to ask for the same record that could have been produced?
“Did you read the deposition? Even the school itself must bury its head in shame. The school has a right to say ‘This is totally the position we have and be unambiguous about it.’ They can’t write that the deposition in a manner”, he said.
But in a new twist to the imbroglio, Starnews Nigeria launched an investigation on Friday to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the revelation made by Mr Sowunmi.
Result of our independent findings revealed that Mr Sowunmi’s was speaking the truth and nothing but the truth.
Confirming the revelation on Friday in a telephone interview with Starnews Nigeria, a UK-based Nigerian Nurse who does not want her name to be mentioned, said, “that’s what I am hearing. That’s the latest news circulating around the UK. Although I am yet to see any official notification regarding that. But I can confirm to you that the news is everywhere,” she added.
For the background, Starnews Nigeria had reported that the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, filed a suit against President Bola Tinubu over his academic record at the Chicago State University (CSU).
Although Tinubu tried to block the release of the documents, saying it was an intrusion of his privacy, but the court overruled him.
Subsequently, Atiku’s lawyers got hold of the documents on Monday, while an oral deposition was made by Caleb Westberg, CSU Registrar.
A deposition is the process of taking a sworn, out-of-court oral testimony of a witness. This testimony may be reduced to a written transcript for use in court or for discovery purposes.
During a press briefing yesterday, Kalu Kalu, one of the lawyers to Atiku Abubakar, said that the legal team had discovered five major discrepancies in the academic records of President Bola Tinubu during the deposition of the Registrar of Chicago State University (CSU), Caleb Westberg.
The lawyer said the Atiku’s team was able to establish that Mr Tinubu committed forgery, has dual citizenship, and presented an NYSC certificate that has a different name from the one he submitted to INEC.
He said, “One, on the certificate issued or released by Chicago State University to the lawyers of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar— Bola Ahmed Tinubu forged the certificate he presented to INEC.
“Two, that the qualifying certificate from Southwest College to Chicago State University bears a female, therefore, the document does not belong to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The Chicago State University admission form has a claim that Bola Ahmed Tinubu attended Government College, Lagos, and graduated in 1970, when indeed that school was established in 1974.
“The same document has it that the owner of that document is a black American, and (in) the document Bola Ahmed submitted to INEC, he denied having dual citizenship, which means it does not belong to him.
“Then, the same document, under deposition, says the “A” in Bola A. Tinubu is Ahmed, but the NYSC certificate Tinubu submitted to INEC says the “A” is Adekunle,” he said.
Meanwhile, Starnews Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s lawyer, Wole Afolabi, has raised defence over some of the irregularities and discrepancies in the president’s alleged controversial academic records released to Atiku by the Chicago State University.
Afolabi raised defence during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
When asked why the President’s certificate carries “F” which indicates a Female, Afolabi, said “The transcript that was provided by Southwest College indicated F. It was clear. All of the other particulars did match information of President Bola Tinubu. Now, the registrar was interviewed on why the discrepancies. He said the person applying for the school ticked the box of a male not a female and when the admission letter was issued it was issued to Mr Tinubu.
“When the question was put to Dr West Brown, he said it is not unusual for universities to mix up. He (West Brown) has been to several universities. It is possible.”
On the discrepancies on the signatures on the certificate, Afolabi said that certificates were not issued at the time of graduation, until one applied for them.
He added that the person who issued the certificate Tinubu submitted to INEC might not have been in the university in 1979.
