Tinubu reacts to Maiduguri floods

In reaction to the devastating flood that has hit Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, President Bola Tinubu has asked his vice, Kashim Shettima, to immediately pay a visit to the state.

Shettima made this known on Tuesday in Abuja, at the 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference (CIBN) with the theme, “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: the state of play and the way forward.”

Shettima said, “After this meeting with the consent of the President, I will rush to Maiduguri. The whole city has been overtaken by flood.

“It is not peculiar to one part of the country. We are facing these challenges right from Bayelsa to Sokoto.

“Be rest assured that the President has the nation at heart and will do whatever it takes to salvage the state of affairs.”

The vice president, who is also a former governor of the north east state, conveyed the sympathy of President Tinubu’s government to all the victims of flood disasters across the nation.

“I want to use this forum to commiserate with the people of our great nation over the flood disasters we are recording all across the length and breath of this nation,” he said.

As a result of water channels at the Alau Dam, displaced many residents of Maiduguri.

Residential quarters including parts of the Shehu of Borno Palace, Maiduguri Central Market and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital have been submerged.

Roads and bridges have also been submerged resulting in the inaccessibility of many areas.

According to reports, GRA, Maiduguri Zoo, College of Nursing, College of Agriculture and School of Health Technology, among others are areas also badly hit by the flood.

We need to beg God for mercy, our sins are too heavy in this dispensation. Kidnapping innocents, burning of worship places in the name of religion. Killing fellow human beings for an unknown god. May God console all that involved in this in Jesus name.
