President Bola Tinubu has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s prospects in 2025, highlighting his administration’s efforts to address economic and social challenges in a New Year message.

According to Peoples Gazette, addressing Nigerians, Mr. Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties of 2024 but assured citizens that their sacrifices over the past 19 months were not in vain.

“I assure you they will not be in vain even in the months ahead. Together, let us stay the course of nation-building. The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire and the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.

The president wished Nigerians a prosperous New Year, adding, “2025 will be a year of great promise in which we will fulfill our collective desires.”

Economic Improvements
Mr. Tinubu noted signs of economic progress, stating that fuel prices have decreased, the naira has strengthened against the dollar, and foreign reserves have risen. He also highlighted record growth in the stock market and increased foreign investment as indicators of renewed confidence in the economy.

However, he acknowledged persistent challenges, including the high cost of food and essential drugs, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reducing inflation from 34.6% to 15% in 2025.

“To achieve this, the federal government will establish the National Credit Guarantee Company to expand risk-sharing instruments for financial institutions and enterprises,” he said, adding that access to credit for individuals and businesses would also be increased.

Opposition Criticism
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticized Mr. Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of worsening hunger and economic hardship in the country. The opposition party described his leadership as “ruinous” and blamed his policies for plunging Nigeria into its worst economic crisis since the Civil War.

Despite the criticisms, Mr. Tinubu maintained confidence in his administration’s direction, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and united in the face of challenges.
