President Bola Tinubu on Monday announced the appointment of Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for the Federal University of Applied Sciences located in Kachia, Kaduna State.
Alongside Kukah, several other principal officers were named to lead the institution. Professor Qurix Barnabas was appointed as Vice Chancellor, while Sanusi Adamu was named Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat was chosen as the Bursar, and Professor Daniel Abubakar was selected as the University Librarian.
In addition, Tinubu also appointed several members to the university’s governing council.
These members include Thomas Etuh, who represents the North-central region, Fabian Nwaora from the South-east, Femi Taiwo from the South-west, and Zarah Bukar from the North-east.
The president expressed that the appointments were made with care, selecting individuals based on their distinguished careers, leadership qualities, and commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.
Tinubu urged the newly appointed officials to work together and use their expertise to position the university as a center for academic excellence and research.
The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, was renamed after the federal government took control of its assets.
The institution is set to begin admitting students in September 2025.
Tinubu asked the leadership to lay a strong foundation for the university’s future growth and success.
