You have often heard that a son shall bear the iniquities of his father and that’s where the modern church got the concept of generational curses being preached to their members.
This is the scripture that suggested that:
Deuteronomy 5:9
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me.
Whenever those half baked pastors read this, they won’t bother to check further to know if God has changed his mind on the said matter. They would go about teaching people using the Old Testament to bring them under bondage.
Yet, in the same Old Testament, it is written that everyone will bear his own sin, a man shall not suffer for the sin of his father.
Let’s see this scriptures:
Ezekiel 18:20
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
A soul that sinned shall die. The son will not bear the sin of his father, says the scriptures. So how do generational curses came into the church?
Let’s assume the Old Testament and the laws are still in force, is it not written there that a man shall not suffer for what his father did?
So how come people are saying some are suffering from the wickedness of their fathers and that’s why things are not working for them ?
Is the Bible lying when it says a son shall not bear the iniquities of his own father ?
Coming to the New Testament, Bible says Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law. Galatians 3:13. So if Jesus has redeemed the Christians from all curses, where do u people get the concept of generational curses from?
I have searched my Bible from cover to cover, read all the epistles and the synoptic gospel, I never read where scriptures talk about generational curses on believers.
How can people who are buried with Christ through baptism (Colossians 2:12) and hidden in the bowel of Jesus Christ according to Colossians 3:3 be under any curse?
Is it not written that all believers have been delivered from the power of darkness?
Colossians 1:13 says:
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:”
How can Jesus delivered us from the power of darkness and you still claim some people are suffering from generational curses?
Does it mean that when a man is poor or unable to achieve material or marital fulfillment, such fellow is under a generational curse? What about unbelievers who have all things to themselves? Who delivered them from generational curses?
We have believed lies for a long time and it has become part of us. If we remove generational curses preaching from the church, many pastors will not have any message to preach.
We must together break the bones of vain religion in Africa.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Let’s pray!
