Suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group attacked Natsini village in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Thursday, January 2, killing two police officers and stealing over 200 cows from a local ranch.
According to Politics Nigeria, the attack occurred around 11 p.m., with the terrorists, reportedly more than 50 in number, arriving on motorcycles. Eyewitnesses said the assailants overpowered police officers stationed at a checkpoint along the Augie/Kangiwa road before proceeding to raid the community.
A local resident, Abubakar Augie, described the incident: “The attackers were more than 50 on motorcycles. They overran the police checkpoint and then went to the ranch where the cows were kept, taking them all away.”
Confirming the attack, Aliyu Gulma, chairman of Argungu Local Government, revealed that a security meeting had been convened to address the situation. He added that the Kebbi State Government has instructed security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen livestock.
The attack highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, with local communities continuing to suffer from the activities of bandits and terrorist groups.
