Tension in Lagos community as beheaded corpse, another body found on street

Residents of Idimu, Lagos State, were thrown into a state of fear on Sunday after two male bodies were discovered along Oladun Road—one of the victims found decapitated.

The incident, believed to have happened late Saturday night, came to light in the early hours of Sunday when locals stumbled upon the gruesome scene.

Upon arrival, the corpses were found lying several meters apart, drawing a large crowd of shocked residents and onlookers who gathered in disbelief.

A community member, Lanre Ajao, identified one of the victims. “One of them is popularly known as Baba Oja. He’s well known around here,” Ajao said. “He was often seen around flashy vehicles at the Council bus stop and sometimes helped control traffic. We even saw him yesterday.”

Speaking further, another resident, Jamiu Raji, suggested that the killings may have been connected to cult-related activities. “The way both individuals were attacked doesn’t look like a random fight. It’s likely cult violence,” he said. “We hardly see things like this in this area, which is why everyone is in shock.”

Reports indicate that law enforcement officers did not arrive until nearly 10 hours after the bodies were first discovered. The second victim was later identified by members of the community, though his name had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.

A resident who requested anonymity for safety reasons alleged that families of the deceased were asked to pay money before being allowed to retrieve the remains of their loved ones.

Efforts to reach the Lagos Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, for confirmation or comment proved unsuccessful. Calls and a message sent to his mobile line remained unanswered as of press time.

This incident adds to the growing list of cult-related killings in the southwest, following reports earlier this year of violent clashes between members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in parts of Lagos and Ogun states.
