Tension as military personnel kills DPO

The Kebbi State Police Command has been plunged into mourning following the brutal murder of SP Haliru Liman, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Wasagu Division, who was killed by a military officer attached to OPHD Sector 6 in the Dan Marke area of Bukkuyum, Zamfara State.

SP Liman was en route to Birnin Kebbi on August 24, 2024, to attend a conference when he was stopped by the military officer. After identifying himself, the officer reportedly pointed his gun at Liman and shot him in the forehead, resulting in his immediate death.

The Kebbi Police Command has condemned the unprovoked and brutal killing of their DPO, calling on the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. They described the murder as both unacceptable and unwarranted.

The Command’s image maker, SP Nafiu Abubakar, in statement decried near dead inter agency collaboration and harmonious working relationship ” the Police least expected this from the military who were professionally trained to work with other security agencies in the country would engage in unprovoked murder of a senior Police officer “.

The statement, however, didn’t indicate whether the military officer has been arrested but gave assurance to the deceased families that justice will be done, ASP Yazid  Abubakar, the image maker, Zamfara Police Command consoled the deceased families and pledged to get to the root of the matter.
