Tension as gunmen storm bank, shoot guard, others

A scene of chaos unfolded in Ughelli, Delta State, on Friday as armed robbers targeted a bank customer outside a newly established bank in the city.

Witnesses reported that a group of about five gunmen in a Toyota Venza had followed the unidentified customer to the bank premises. Without warning, they opened fire and attacked the customer before he could enter the bank.

The customer, carrying three ‘Ghana Must Go’ bags filled with money, became the robbers’ target, and they swiftly seized the bags before fleeing the scene. Amid the commotion, the bank’s security guard and two bystanders were injured by the gunmen, who were armed with sophisticated weapons and operated without opposition.

The incident caused panic among residents and customers along Isoko Road in Otovwodo, Ughelli.
