- Pass vote of confidence on Fayose
- Urge NWC to call Gov Seyi Makinde to order
- Adopt Olafeso for the position of National Vice Chairman (southwest)
Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Nicholas Tofowomo (Ondo South) and Ayo Akinyelure (Ondo Central) with some notable leaders of the party from Ondo State have promised to elect Dr Eddy Olafeso for the position of the National Vice chairman and support other candidates presented by the group of Dr Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State ahead of the zonal congress of the party on January 2021.
Starnews Nigeria reports that this was made known on Monday when the delegation of Ondo State PDP leaders led by Senator Tofowomo paid a visit to former Governor Fayose at his residence in Ikeja, Lagos State Capital.
Tofowomo who spoke on behalf of the delegation said Ondo State PDP will not sacrifice the position of National Vice Chairman of the party for ordinary Ex-officio, saying that Olafeso will be returned as the Zonal Chairman as well as other candidates presented by Fayose’s group.
Corroborating Tofowomo’s stance, Senator Ayo Akinyure, represented by a former State Chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, Hon Ebenezer Alabi, said Ondo State is not a servant state to Oyo State, urging governor Seyi Makinde to honour his word and the original decision by the leadership of the PDP in the southwest where the position of the National Vice Chairmanship and Zonal Publicity Secretary were ceded to Ondo State.
While declaring support for Olafeso and others, Akinyelure rejected the position of ex officio given to Ondo State in lieu of the National vice chairmanship of the party.
The group passed a vote of confidence on Fayose and condemned what they described as the self serving attitude of Governor Makinde.
”Governor Makinde must realize immediately that Ondo State is independent of Oyo State and not tied to anyone’s apron strings. His leadership style is not unifying and edifying the PDP in the southwest and he must begin to lead by example.
”One of the prime reasons we lost Ondo State election which today left the people in regrets is his lack of unifying factor and inability to carry stakeholders along.”
”We urged the National Working Committee to call him to order forthwith because we value our party and remain committed to its ideals, desires and goals.”
“We believe in the leadership of His Excellency, Dr Ayo Fayose for his exemplary qualities, commitment and vision in developing the party and wishes to thank His Excellency, Dr Fayose for his support for Ondo State by supporting the original formula that ceded the National Vice Chairman and Zonal Publicity Secretary to Ondo State.”
”We further thank him for his support for Dr Olafeso in his first tenure.”
”We respect and proudly associate and align with Dr Fayose and other leaders of the zone who remain focused and committed to the Party”, the group said.
Reacting, Dr Fayose said he remains steadfast and loyal to the PDP, adding that only those in Governor Makinde’s group insinuated that he is working for the ruling APC.
Fayose condemned governor Makinde’s alleged attitude of going personal over political issues. He warned the Oyo State Governor to desist from insulting his personality.
”I will not hesitate to respond appropriately if Governor Makinde continues to go personal over political issues. It is Makinde’s choice and latitude to remain a captive of his court jesters and numerous sycophants around him, but must be careful and no longer attack,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State delegation has approved the suspension of the Zonal Chairman, Hon Dayo Ogungbenro and urged other members of the Zonal Caretaker Committee to take full grip of the Party in the Southwest Zone.
They similarly distanced themselves from Olagunsoye Oyinlola Peace Committee set up by Governor Makinde.
The delegation consists of local government PDP chairmen, and former chairmen, former and serving PDP lawmakers, former council bosses elected on the platform of the PDP and party leaders from across the 18 local governments of Ondo State.
Starnews Nigeria can report that apart from Senator Tofowomo, other notable faces at the meeting were: former State Chairman of the party, Hon Ebenezer Alabi, who represented the Senator representing Ondo Central, Ayo Akinyelure, former State Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, Chief Ibini Oyedele, former House of Representatives member, Hon Lad Ojomo, Dr Eddy Olafeso, Hon Rasheed Elegbeleye, Hon Festus Akingbaso, Chief Tunde Akindehin, Hon Saka Lawal, Hon Idowu Ogunmade, Hon Niyi Ogungbuji, Hon. Ayo Fadaka, among others.
