Supreme Court Ruling: Tinubu Holds Close-Door Meeting On LG Financial Autonomy with Governors

President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a crucial meeting with some governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The gathering follows the Supreme Court decision on Thursday that upheld the autonomy of local governments across the country.

Tinubu began discussions at his office immediately after speaking with labour leaders earlier. Vice-President Kashim Shettima was also in attendance.

Notable attendees included AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF); Charles Soludo of Anambra; and Usman Ododo of Kogi.

According to Daily Trust, although the exact agenda remains undisclosed, there are strong indications that the meeting pertains to the implications of the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government finances.

The Supreme Court’s verdict mandates the direct allocation of federal funds owed to local governments from the Federation account, bypassing previous central government controls.
