Ashleigh Plumptre has expressed happiness with the fact that the Super Falcons of Nigeria will be going to the 2023 World Cup after reaching the semifinal of the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco. Although the Super Falcons failed to retain their title in Morocco after losing the semifinal clash against the host nation who tried all they could to beat Nigerian girls.
Super Falcons of Nigeria even finished the encounter with 9 women as Halimatu and Rasheedat Ajibade were red carded, but they still forced the match into penalties before losing.
It still hasn’t really sunk in about the World Cup. “I never thought I would play in a World Cup, whether it was with England or Nigeria. I never thought it would be a thing. “I remember watching the England Under-20s at the World Cup when I was about that age. I wasn’t thinking that would be me one day, and here we are. Crazy.”
Their fighting spirit in the encounter against Morocco touched the hearts of many football fans as the Super Falcons played 50 minutes with 9 women after Halimatu and Ajibade were red carded. Zambian girls were impressive in their tie against the Super Falcons as goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie scored the own goal which condemned Nigeria into a 1-0 loss.
