The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has imposed an indefinite suspension on Habibu Umar, a legislator representing Kirfi Local Government Area in the State House of Assembly.
The decision follows accusations of insubordination and alleged ties with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The PDP’s leadership communicated the suspension in a formal letter to the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman.
The document, signed by the party’s state chairman, Sama’ila Burga, stated that the lawmaker’s actions were inconsistent with the party’s constitution.
The matter reportedly originated from a complaint submitted by the executive members of Umar’s ward in Beni.
Acting on the complaint, the party issued a query on November 5, 2024, seeking explanations for the alleged misconduct.
A Disciplinary Committee was subsequently established on November 11, 2024, to investigate the issue.
The committee concluded that Umar’s actions violated specific provisions of the PDP’s 2017 constitution.
Based on its findings, the committee recommended his suspension. This measure, effective November 25, 2024, bars the lawmaker from participating in any activities related to the PDP until further notice.
While the party awaits any potential developments, this suspension serves as a significant step in maintaining internal discipline and ensuring adherence to its guidelines.
