The proprietor of Starnews NG, Olumide Akinrinlola, has responded to comments made by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s media aide, Onawumi Kehinde Ayochris, concerning the Senator’s absence at a recent All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ore.
Akinrinlola addressed the issue after Ayochris claimed that a report suggesting Ibrahim’s absence from the rally was false and an attempt to mislead the public.
In his response, Akinrinlola clarified that he did not personally author the article in question, nor was it an opinion piece.
“I didn’t write any false claims, and in fact, I didn’t write any story,” he said, expressing surprise that the Senator’s media aide could not even spell his name correctly.
He explained that Starnews NG, as a legitimate news platform, has the duty to report objective stories, including the factual absence of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from the rally.
“It is NOT my opinion but an unbiased news report by Starnews NG,” Akinrinlola stated, distancing himself from the narrative that the report was driven by personal motives.
Akinrinlola also pointed out that being the proprietor of the newspaper does not mean he is the author of every story published.
“Like any other newspapers, we have staff and various departments with seasoned journalists and editors fully in charge of publications,” he said, urging the Senator’s media aide to distinguish between a publication by Starnews NG and his personal opinions.
Furthermore, he noted that it is the responsibility of the Senator to clarify the reasons for his absence at the rally, not his.
“Nobody should involve me or tag any publication in Starnews NG as my personal opinion,” Akinrinlola asserted, stressing that the media aide’s response should be directed at the facts of the report rather than his personality.
The exchange follows a Starnews NG report which highlighted that Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, along with other notable figures, was absent from the APC rally in Ondo South, a situation that has drawn reactions from various quarters.
