Tinuade Mabel Onaneye, the Erelu Oodua of Yoruba land, has condemned the re-arrest of Mr Omoyele Sowore, by the personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) inside the courtroom.
In a statement she personally signed and made available to Starnews (Starnews.com.ng) on Friday, Erelu Oodua also called on Yoruba Obas to act fast to secure the release of Sowore before his continued incarceration by men of the DSS degenerates to an unwanted situation just like the case of late MKO Abiola who died in prison.
”It is no more news that Omoyele Sowore is being incarcerated over an unjust cause for the past four months now, despite an order of a competent court directing his release, the DSS still held on to him.”
”Yesterday, he was released and took to the Federal High Court, Abuja, in order to finalize his bail, but to my surprise this morning, I read the news of how the men of DSS invaded the said court to rearrest him inside the courtroom which led to his maltreatment, rough up, in front of the presiding judge.”
”The invasion of the courtroom by DSS officials is a mockery of our law and a complete desecration of of Nigerian democracy.”
”Is Sowore the cause of insecurity, economic hardships, corruption, and other sundry problems that have bedeviled Nigeria over the years?”
”If care is not taken in Yoruba land, the otherwise could happen to that energetic, vibrant and promising guy, who is one of the leaders of tomorrow.”
”It is on this note that I call upon all the Yoruba elders and traditional leaders to save our innocent and promising child, Sowore, before it degenerates to something unwanted. We all witnessed the case of MKO Abiola here in Nigeria and eventually, we lost him”, Erelu Oodua said.
