Sowore is not a terrorist, he’s my constituent, Senator Tofowomo tackles DSS on re-arrest saga

  • describes court invasion as gross transgression on constitutionalism
  • Change your approach to remove your reproach, he tells DSS
  • Demands release of Sowore, Bakare forthwith

Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, representing Ondo South at the National Assembly, has described the re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore and Adebayo Bakare by men of the Department of State Services inside the courtroom on Friday where Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu was presiding as gross transgression on constitutionalism.

Senator Tofowomo who is the senator representing Sowore’s local government at the 9th Senate, also said that the manner in which the court and her premises was overrun by men of the DSS to re-arrest Sowore and Bakare over alleged fresh charges, was a profane of the hallowed courtroom.

”I condemn the re-arrest of Mr. Omoyele Sowore by the personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) inside the courtroom on Friday where Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu was presiding.”

”The manner in which the court and her premises was overrun by men of the DSS to re-arrest Sowore and Bakare over alleged fresh charges, was a gross transgression on constitutionalism and a profane of the hallowed courtroom.”

Starnews reports that Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), on Friday, re-arrested Omoyele Sowore, Convener, #RevolutionNow Protest, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare shortly after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu adjourned the day’s proceeding till February 2020 for definite hearing.

In a statement by Akinrinlola Olumide, his Media Aide on Saturday, the distinguished Senator advised the DSS to act professionally and change their approach in handling cases of arrest, saying that power transcends from one political dispensation to another, reminding the officials of the DSS that our actions and inactions of today can determine our tomorrow.

”I advise men of the DSS to act professionally within the confine of the law. They should allow the court to try Sowore and his co – defendant over allegations they leveled against them.”

”The DSS should be more interested in proving the allegations they leveled against both of them. Whatever fresh charges could have been included through a mere application for amendment of their charge sheet before the court.”

”Sowore is my constituent and as much as I know, he is not a terrorist and does not have any criminal record in the past. The invasion of the courtroom to re-arrest him was unnecessary.”

”I, therefore, appeal to men of the DSS to change their approach to remove their reproach, especially while carrying out their official duties in any case, because power transcends from one political dispensation to the other.”

”I hereby demand the release of Sowore and Bakare forthwith. The DSS should know that our actions and inactions can determine our tomorrow, ” Tofowomo said.
