The Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto State, on Saturday, conducted its state congress, where no fewer than 2,567 delegates re-elected Bello Goronyo as the party chairman.
The congress, which was held at the party secretariat, also elected Abubakar Bashire as the Secretary, Yahaya Ibrahim as the Treasurer, Abdulrahaman Abubakar as the Legal Adviser, while Hassan Sanyinawal was re-elected as the party’s Publicity Secretary.
The congress was witnessed by a delegation from the national headquarters of the party, led by Mukhtar Lugga.
Speaking while congratulating the new executives, the state’s party leader, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, urged the new executives to ensure inclusivity, transparency, and accountability in the party’s dealings.
He said, “Earlier today, I had the privilege of leading the delegates from Tambuwal Local Government to the Sokoto State PDP Congress. It was a momentous occasion as we witnessed Hon. Muhammad Bello Aliyu re-emerge as the state chairman through a successful consensus process.
“The consensus process underscored the importance of unity and collective decision-making. As we strive to entrench internal democracy in our dear country, Nigeria, it is imperative to pay close attention to party politics.
“As we move forward, I urge the newly elected leadership to prioritise inclusivity, transparency, and accountability. It is essential that all stakeholders are carried along in the decision-making process to ensure the party’s continued growth and success.”
The former Sokoto governor prayed for divine guidance for the new state leadership.
“I wish the official PDP Nigeria a successful outcome across the country, filled with unity, progress, and service to the Nigerian people,” Tambuwal added.
Goronyo was first elected as the state’s party chairman in September 2020, succeeding his predecessor, the late Ibrahim Milgoma.
