Scores of angry Nigerians in Lagos State and Ondo State have broken into government warehouses to loot COVID-19 palliatives.
Starnews Nigeria reports that the Lagos incident happened in the Amuwo area of Lagos State on Thursday while that of Ondo State happened in Nepa area of Akure South Local Government of Ondo State on Wednesday till Thursday morning.
Citizens in the two states were shocked to see COVID-19 palliatives stored in the respective warehouses despite the excruciating hunger in Nigeria.
In Akure, hungry citizens risked their lives going into the warehouse to loot the palliatives even as angry youths set the storehouse on fire.
It took the intervention of the military to restore normalcy to the scene of the incident in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Viral videos of the two incidents on social media on Thursday showed people packing out bags and cartons of the palliatives which were ought to have been shared by government to cushion the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
In Akure, Starnews Nigeria gathered that bags of foods ranging from rice, sugar, Indomie and many other food items went up in flames as hungry citizens defy the fire to loot the store.
From the video of the Lagos incident, a van belonging to a joint Internal Security Operational platform, OP MESA, with people loading the vehicle with the palliative was spotted.
