Senator Omogunwa breaks silence, speaks about ZLP/PDP merger, PDP Exco, Mimiko, Ajayi, Jegede

The immediate past Senator representing Ondo South at the Senate, Senator Yele Omogunwa, has reacted to the rumour making the round on social media over an alleged plan to dissolve the Ondo state executives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accommodate loyalists of former Governor Olusegun Mimiko who recently joined the party and dissolved the entire structure of his former party, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), into the PDP.

But the rumour has since been described as a fake news alert by Mr. Donald Ojogo, the Ondo state Commissioner for Information, to draw Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, and the PDP into a battle of words, according to Mr. John Paul Akinduro, the Special Assistant, Media, and Digital Communications, to former Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

Starnews Nigeria also reported that the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, Kennedy Peretei, said in a statement on Thursday, that the story was planted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government to discredit the image of the PDP, whose profile is rising by the day.

But reacting on a WhatsApp Group on Friday, the former Lawmaker, Senator Omogunwa said, “it is expected that people must be reasonable and maturer this time around. PDP should constantly pray against destabilising crooked Agents of any sort and from any angle low or high, within and without.

“For me, nothing is new to me in the politics of Ondo State. Government should focus on its agenda. For us, we are all Stakeholders. When a government does well, we all enjoy and if otherwise, all of us are involved. If Donald Ojogo is right or wrong, further developments shall prove. But if it is part of the responsibilities of a Hon. Commissioner to concoct lies to destabilise opposition party unprofessionally and in bad faith, further developments shall also prove.

“I know the duties of such office because I have served in that position with moral. All you need do is to project the government and educate the masses on the achievements of the government.

“And as for my “friend”, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, a former this and that, I know him too very well. He is an Enigma. However, I think that at his age, he should be trusted. Any human being is ambitious and deserves recognition. Mimiko has weighed his options before pitching his political tent and I guess it is for the success of PDP and how to move the party forward.

“He is a lover of progress. Though I can’t vouch for anybody’s unseen inner mind. But at his age and experiences, stability and progress must be the watchwords.

“As Mimiko collapsed his ZLP into PDP with his numerous party members, some chairmen of all descriptions and party Excos at various levels deserve reputable treatment with his team. But must they all come just to fold arms and watch? The big question?

“Last week another party collapsed its Structure to PDP. Does it make sense to just come and be onlookers? I, Senator Yele Omogunwa came with my “scanty” supporters watching and mending fences. Must these people not be given a sense of belonging? PDP over to you.

“My take is this. The tenure of the present Excos is time-bound. Why the haste? What you do, your contribution and your loyalty would eventually speak for you. Governors Wike or Tambuwal or whoever cannot profer the desired solution. The solution must be internal, homegrown, and bottom-up.

“Let charity start from here. The powers that be in the Ondo PDP chapter have to settle at home and forward the agreed probable Solution. Pls, learn from me. In 2019, the NB EC 9f APC gave me the nod to recontest but Mr. Almighty governor Arakunrin claimed he was not carried along, he scuttled the NEC agents and introduced anti-party with His Excellency Agboola Ajayi through a faceless AA Party.

“Though they came a distant third, yet the deed was done and I ost. The lesson, let’s come together at home. I see the PDP as a party of tomorrow if the spirit of giving and taking comes to play. You don’t forget what happened in the last governorship and move forward; ‘E si’, you miss it so to say.

“PDP is a big potential but to harness all, the South Senatorial District should settle, move forward, forget inordinate ambition and take her rightful place.

“The late Olusegun Agagu has left a big shoe nobody has been able to step into. The leader of PDP in Ondo State as far as my little mind tells me is Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), but if he’s stepping down for whatever reason, the answer is his and the party.

“I am watching. Sen Yele Omogunwa of little pol (political) idea”., he wrote
