Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has drawn attention to a video showing large crowds of Nigerians queuing for palliatives at President Bola Tinubu’s Lagos residence on Christmas Eve.
According to Afripost, the video, shared on Ndume’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, December 25, reflects the senator’s concern about the growing poverty in the country.
“Long queues for palliatives at Bourdillon on Christmas Eve underscore a harsh reality. Poverty is a shared burden that requires collective action and lasting solutions,” Ndume wrote.
The senator’s statement comes amid reports of deadly stampedes at palliative distribution events in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, which resulted in the loss of over 60 lives.
Ndume also used the opportunity to highlight the economic challenges in southern Nigeria, emphasizing that poverty is not confined to any particular region. He challenged the perception that the South is less affected by the economic struggles often associated with the North, urging for a unified effort to address the nation’s poverty crisis.
The video and the senator’s remarks have sparked conversations about the urgent need for sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty across Nigeria.
