The National Assembly has summoned Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, to appear before it. The lawmakers also decided to defer the ministry’s 2025 budget.

This announcement was made by Senator Kenneth Eze, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, in a viral video on X on Tuesday during the Ministry’s budget defence.

According to Daily Post, Senator Eze remarked that the funding proposed for the ministry was far from satisfactory.

He described the proposed budget for such an important ministry as a “national embarrassment,” stating, “The budget is nothing to write home about. It is more like a national embarrassment to give the ministry what is being budgeted for.”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, supporting the deferral, explained that the budget had been stepped down due to insufficient funding.

“I second the stepping down of the 2025 budget for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation because the funding as presented is inadequate. We also summon the Minister of Information and National Orientation for further review,” she said.
