Rivers Assembly Factional Speaker Accuses Governor of Planned Demolition Amidst Inspection Visit

Martin Amaewhule, the factional speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly representing Obio/Akpor 1, has leveled accusations against Governor Siminialayi Fubara, alleging plans to demolish the quarters of the state House of Assembly.

Amaewhule made this claims during a statement in Port Harcourt, following Governor Fubara’s recent inspection visit to the assembly quarters.

Governor Fubara, while addressing journalists during the visit, stated his intention to assess the facility’s condition for potential rehabilitation.

However, Amaewhule criticized the visit as ‘unannounced’ and deemed it an intrusion into the residential premises of Rivers Assemblymen.

He said, ”His plan is to demolish the quarters the way he did to some parts of the state assembly complex in 2023.”

The factional speaker said the governor’s move was purely political because the Rivers assembly residential quarter was still the best in the country.

”The residential quarters were built by the administration of former Governor Nyesom Wike in 2022,” said Mr Amaewhule. ”There’s nothing wrong with the buildings. They are in perfect condition.”

He added, “We have not called on the governor for any form of help. The governor’s undue interference is unbecoming of a sitting governor who is supposed to uphold the sanctity of the law.”

Mr Amaewhule also accused Mr Fubara of always acting against democratic norms and principles.

He stated,” His actions show that he had declared war on all politically elected people in the state.”
