Ripples, Drama, Anxiety As Seyi Makinde Exits Oyo PDP WhatsApp Platform

The political atmosphere in Oyo State has become highly charged following the exit of the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, from the official WhatsApp platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.

Starnews Nigeria reports that the Official Whatsapp platform was created by the State Publicity Secretary, Engr Akeem Olatunji.

The exit of the governor is causing ripples and has subsequently created anxiety among members of the party in the State.

Starnews Nigeria gathered that the drama began when the PDP State Publicity Secretary posted a video on Fulani herdsmen attack on the people of Ayete, headquarters of Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, which has other towns like Igangan.

Governor Makinde allegedly exited the WhatsApp platform in anger at about 10 pm yesterday (Saturday evening), after Engr Akeem requested the authority of Oyo State Government to address the message in the video regards the criminal activities of Fulani herdsmen.

In the video obtained by our correspondent, the governor was being called upon to take urgent steps to save the people of Ayete from incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen which were shared to the PDP platform by the State Publicity Secretary of the party.

The screenshot of the Whatsapp conversation obtained by Starnews Nigeria shows that Engr Olatunji had commented on the video by saying; “This video has gone viral but the authority need to confirm the claim. It’s very urgent to address the message…”

But at exactly 10:07 pm, Governor Makinde allegedly reacted in anger to the comment made by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, by saying, according to the screenshot that; “Every time some idiots makes a video, the government must respond… I don’t get it really… you need mature people to make meaningful contributions on your platform.”

From the screenshot, the governor allegedly went on to react to another story on the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership revalidation/registration titled; “Several injured as APC members fight over registration in Oyo State.”

Governor Makinde allegedly asked; “What is the relevance of this on PDP official platform?”

He then exited the platform as seen in the screenshot below:

When Starnews Nigeria correspondent sought the reaction of Mr Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor on phone at exactly 9:32 Am on Sunday, he said: “I don’t know anything about what you are saying. Please I don’t know,” he told our correspondent.

Speaking to our correspondent on phone, one of the chieftains of the PDP in Oyo State who spoke under the condition of anonymity said “as good as governor makinde, he needs to improve himself on the aspect of tolerance. That was how he exited the Lagos State PDP platform recently over an issue he could have tolerated. He is a leader and a leader must be able to tolerate his subjects,” the source said.

His exit was followed by comments by other participants in the group.
