Resignation of Commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet hit nine

The number of commissioners who have resigned from the cabinet of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, is now nine. This is the situation as the Commissioner for Special Projects, Emeka Woke and the Commissioner for Environment, Austen Ben-Chioma, have now transmitted their letters of resignation to the Governor.

Both Woke and Ben-Chioma are believed to be loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

Woke was the Chief of Staff to Wike, while Ben-Chioma was the Commissioner for Urban Development in the former governor’s administration.

Woke’s letter of resignation is dated November 14, 2023. He wrote in the letter: “My decision to resign at this time necessitated by pressing family demands for my time and attention as well as the desire to afford other deserving Rivers people the opportunity to serve you and the state in that capacity,” Woke’s letter read in part.

But Ben-Chioma’s letter is dated December 15, 2023. He said he was resigning for personal reasons.
