The House of Representatives Finance Committee has suggested that Nigeria’s military personnel should be exempt from paying taxes on their personal income.
This proposal was introduced by the committee’s chairman, Abiodun Faleke, during the review of four tax bills presented by President Bola Tinubu to Parliament in October 2024.
Faleke explained the reasoning behind the proposal, noting the importance of military personnel’s work in the country. He pointed out the dangers and responsibilities tied to their roles, suggesting that they deserve this financial relief.
The proposal received strong support from all members present in the meeting, and if approved, it would provide military personnel with tax-free income, honoring their service and sacrifices for the nation.
More details will follow.
