An editorial by Starnews NG has stirred diverse reactions following the mystery surrounding the whereabouts of the First Lady of Ondo State.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s wife has been absent from the public eye, sparking debates on whether her role is essential in the state’s governance.
Ajayi Dominic commented, “You’ll see her after the election. First Lady isn’t a pressing issue at the moment. You should not forget that H.E. Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a governor today to complete Late H.E. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN’s tenure. Come February 2025, when our dear Governor will be sworn in as the new Executive Governor of Ondo State, you shall see the First Lady! _E lo fokàn b’alè_.”
However, Princess was blunt, stating, “First Lady for what? In what area is the vacuum of the First Lady? The last First Lady Ondo State got was a big error and virus to the entire state. It’s not necessary. If it’s his choice to remain without one, so be it. Marriage is not an achievement; it’s a choice. Abi na First Lady wan fix the state?”
Meanwhile, Adewole Moralist weighed in with a straightforward claim: “Our governor no get wife. Him wife don run.”
Others, like SANDEL, speculated about a possible wedding before the next election: “Our governor’s secret wedding 💍 will hold B4 Election. If u don’t know den forget about it.”
The situation elicited varied emotions, as Toprinboye humorously remarked, “Issokay. Wetin Ondo State no go see,” while Oluwasegun Ayadi added, “Please let him come home.” Toprinboye quickly responded with a suggestion: “Which home? He had better look for a classy woman that is brought up for such realities. All these local girls and wahala.”
Questions about the constitutional basis of the role also emerged. Akin Awodeyi queried, “Is it a constitutional matter?” This was reinforced by FADSON, who said, “You guys should rest,” and *Fortune 2025*, who remarked, “What was the impact of Aketi’s First Lady? Abegi, let the man focus on bringing the desired development to the state. There’s no special place for First Lady in the constitution. If he decides not to use a First Lady, so be it. So far he’s doing the right thing, I’m satisfied.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Adeola Erastus warned, “I beg we don’t need another hush mummy in the state o, let’s recover from the ijoba baba, iya ati omo of Aketi dynasty.”
Eniayewu also pointed out, “The Nigerian Constitution doesn’t require a governor to have a ‘First Lady’ or specify any gender-related conditions for the role.”
Adding a humorous spin, Omnipotent said, “Make we kuku dey assume Bexky is still the First Lady.”
Not everyone agreed with the need for a First Lady. Adeyinka Abayomi simply stated, “What for? Did we vote First Lady as governor?” Oladapo Oyedele lamented, “What is the meaning of this? A position used to oppress the people by power-drunk women.”
Drawing a comparison to Benue State, Lady B remarked, “Benue State once had a Catholic cleric and still has one now in 2024. Abi Reverend Fathers dey get wife? This is petty, please, except if the Nigerian constitution requires that🤔.”
The reactions were capped off with Ayonitemi’s lighthearted plea: “Make he come marry me oooo, am available.”
As the debates continue, the general consensus seems to focus more on good governance rather than the role of a First Lady.
