RCCG Political Department: In Defence of Pastor E. A Adeboye

Dear Chief Dele Momodu,

RCCG did not create any political department because of Vice President YEMI Osinbajo’s 2023 presidential project. The G.O has always been an advocate of Christian participation in politics for a very long time. The new political department created as you can see in that memo didn’t say it was created for Osinbajo’s presidential ambition.

The enlightenment by the G.O which encourages Christian participation in politics should not be misconstrued or given a wrong interpretation by you my dear Chief.

It may interest you and the public to know that the Church Sunday School manual has two chapters that treated and encouraged Christian involvement in Politics. That manual was not recently produced by Pastor E. A Adeboye – a confirmation that the General Overseer is in the forefront of encouraging the body of Christ to participate in politics and not something that started yesterday.

As Christians, we have the civic right to vote and be voted for under the law of Nigeria. (1Peter 2:13-14, Titus 3:1, Deuteronomy 1:13,). It is the desire of God that believers should take charge, be fruitful, dominate, and influence the earth (Deuteronomy 1:28).

Politics determines the development of a society because it has to do with the activities of running a government, organization or movement. As such, Christians are supposed to involve themselves in politics since political actions or inactions have a direct or indirect impact on human lives and existence.

But for lack of revelation, and craftiness of the devil, the body of Christ was deceived in the past by the kingdom of darkness. The devil created the falsehood that “Politics Is Dirty” and sold that gullibility to Christians to put his agents in the affairs of governance and edged believers out from taking charge.

Instead of criticising and misconstruing the intent of the General Overseer of RCCG for creating a political department in the church, you and other critics should thank him for educating the ignorance of the body of Christ in Nigeria. It is only in Africa we still believe that politics is dirty and that Christians shouldn’t involve themselves.

The creation of the political department by Pastor Adeboye should be seen as a wake-up call to all the Christians in the world. Nobody should twist and untwist Pastor Adeboye’s motive.

Politics starts from the Bible. Joseph was the prime minister of Egypt. A prime minister is the head of a government while the king is the ceremonial president.

The government are constituted authority and it is approved by God. Romans 13:1-2. Therefore, nobody should criticize churches or General Overseers who are supporting Christians’ participation in politics.

I come in peace!
