In anticipation of nationwide protests against bad governance, the Federal Government has ramped up security measures at all national borders.
The Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has ordered all Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, and Divisional Immigration Officers (DIOS) across the country to enforce strict surveillance.
Service Spokesman, DCI Kenneth Udo, stated that the directive aims to prevent foreign elements from entering the country to participate in the protests.
The statement emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and intensified surveillance in light of the planned nationwide protest by various groups.
“The Comptroller General highlighted the importance of safeguarding the nation’s gateways, instructing officers, particularly Heads of Border Commands, to ensure that no foreign elements exploit the protests to destabilize the country.”
Nandap also announced a temporary suspension of all leave applications and urged officers to demonstrate utmost professionalism and patriotism in their duties during and after the protest, underscoring that Nigeria is the only country they have.
The CGIS assured all Nigerians of the service’s readiness to secure the nation’s borders and enhance national security.
