Prosecute Elites Involved in Subsidy Fraud To Show Seriousness – IPAC Tells Tinubu

Yabagi Sani, the Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has responded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national broadcast, in which the president justified the removal of fuel subsidy as it primarily benefited the elites.

Sani urged the President to take further action by prosecuting the elites involved in the subsidy fraud. He expressed this view during an interview on Trust TV, emphasizing that such prosecutions would build trust among Nigerians and demonstrate the President’s commitment to working for the people.

According to Sani, President Tinubu needs to take decisive steps and bring the fraudulent elites to justice. He noted that during the President’s speech, he acknowledged the existence of a select group of elites taking advantage of the majority. As these individuals can be traced, Sani argued that there should be no difficulty in identifying the sources of the money they collected, the bank accounts involved, the beneficiaries of the subsidy fuel, and the importers responsible. By doing so, the President can demonstrate his dedication to the welfare of the common man, which he often refers to as “we.”

The Chairman of IPAC urged President Tinubu to prove his commitment to the people and disassociate himself from the elite class. Sani highlighted that the President should not merely claim to be fighting for the people, but he should actively take measures against the few elites who have been involved in the subsidy fraud. Such actions would instill belief and trust in the President among Nigerians, potentially changing the public’s perception of him from being one of the elites to a leader working for the welfare of the citizens.
