A pregnant woman was abducted on Tuesday night by suspected gunmen in Ayedele community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The victim, identified as Mary Jesulayomi, was reportedly seized around 7:40 pm near the Federal Secretariat on Igbatoro Road, on the outskirts of Akure.
Reports indicate that the attackers also took a 90-year-old man, Pa Ogunleye Mese, and his wife, but later released the couple a short distance from the scene.
In a video interview obtained by our correspondent, Pa Mese said the gunmen fired shots into the air to frighten residents before forcing the three victims towards a nearby bush.
He added that he was beaten during the ordeal but escaped while being marched away, while his wife collapsed and was left behind.
Mrs Mese described the incident as terrifying, saying the assailants abandoned her and continued with the pregnant woman.
Confirming the abduction, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said tactical teams had been dispatched to the area to rescue the victim.
The incident comes less than a week after gunmen kidnapped seven people in Eleyewo community, also in Akure North, where two victims were later rescued by the police.
