The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to the brutal killing of a student from the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN).
According to Afripost, the tragic incident occurred on February 6, 2025, following a heated altercation between two students at a residence near ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road.
According to Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the police were alerted by a resident, Mercy Bassey, who reported a violent dispute between one of her tenants and his friend around 2:00 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where doctors confirmed his death. His body was later moved to the morgue for an autopsy.
Following a swift investigation, the police arrested John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student at the same institution, as the prime suspect.
“The suspect admitted to attacking the victim with both an axe and a knife,” CP Mohammed disclosed, confirming that both weapons were recovered from the crime scene.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiries and prosecution.
