Police Rescue Man Found in Chains Abandoned by Kidnappers in Niger Forest

Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have rescued a man, Nasiru Idris, who was found with chains and padlocks around his neck and hands in Mariga forest.

Idris, a resident of Farin-Ruwa in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, was reportedly abandoned by his abductors before being discovered by the police.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that officers encountered Idris on February 16, 2025, during a patrol along the Bangi-Kontagora road. The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘A’ Division, Kontagora.

According to Abiodun, the kidnappers fled upon sighting the police, leaving behind their captive. Idris was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment, while efforts are ongoing to locate his family. The police have also launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of his abduction and to apprehend the perpetrators.

Suspect Arrested for Stabbing in Kotonkoro

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the police arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Hashimu Sani, on February 17, 2025, at about 10:30 p.m. in Kotonkoro village.

Sani was found carrying two knives stained with what appeared to be blood. Investigations revealed that he had allegedly stabbed 20-year-old Musa Bala in the neck.

During interrogation, Sani could not provide a reason for the attack. Police reports suggest that he is a known drug addict who had previously boasted about being able to commit murder without facing consequences.

The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
