While some view this as part of modern social dynamics, it has also become a dangerous gateway for predators.
Investigations revealed that many young women who go missing were last traced to meetings arranged through hookup channels or apps, often with strangers.
These encounters sometimes result in victims being used for ritual practices aimed at obtaining wealth.
Authorities in Ogun State, which has recorded several such cases, are tackling the problem through advocacy and sensitization.
Collaborative efforts with the Women Affairs Commission provide support for survivors, including mental health counselling.
Police emphasized that misconceptions about rituals leading to wealth are fueling these heinous acts.
They are calling for greater awareness among youths to avoid falling into such traps, as well as stronger societal measures to discourage harmful practices.
